Cabbage has been grown around the world for over 3,000 years, making it a staple in the agriculture industry. As owner of Hollar and Greene Produce, the only supplier on the East Coast that produces organic cabbage, Dale Greene knows that value of cabbage from the mountains to the coast.

Born in the mountains of North Carolina, Dale Greene experienced both farming and hard work at a young age. Growing up on a family farm and working as a dump truck driver for many years, Dale established strong connections with various members of the community, including farmers and agriculture industry workers. These connections led to the founding of Hollar and Greene Produce in 1963! Dale and his father-in-law, Lige, started by picking up cabbage from local farms in the Boone area and taking it to local farmers markets to sell. Through the years, they have continued to work with local farmers, as well as grow their own cabbage, to become the largest fresh cabbage retail operation in the United States.

Today, Hollar and Greene Produce operates three farm locations, with their primary location residing in Mount Airy. The farm in operational from June through December each year and encompasses over 40,000 square feet of cooling and packing facilities, in addition to farmland. The Greene Family produces six varieties of cabbage and three varieties of potatoes each year. Although their potato varieties are a vital aspect of the farming operation, cabbage, both conventional and organic, is their staple crop.

Green cabbage, red cabbage, savory cabbage, napa cabbage, certified organic green cabbage, and certified organic red cabbage are all produced at Hollar and Greene Produce. Over the past ten years, the Greene Family has increased their production of cabbage, especially organic cabbage, making them a major player in both the domestic and international industry. Their organic cabbage is free of all artificial and synthetic fertilizers, ensuring freshness year-round. From the mountains to the coast, Hollar and Greene ships their products to customers across the world. Check out their website and social media pages for more information, availability, recipes and more!

We are so proud of all that Hollar and Greene is doing in the produce industry. Each year, they provide fresh, North Carolina cabbage and potatoes to customers across the world, further expanding the flavor and legacy of products grown in our state. We look forward to seeing their legacy continue in the years to come!
