As we approach the holiday season, we’re reminded of the things that bring us together this time of year: family, friends, food and gratitude. At the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, we know that behind every meal shared around the table, there’s a farmer whose hard work makes it possible
This year at the N.C. State Fair, we asked fairgoers to take a moment to write personal thank-you notes to the farmers who keep North Carolina thriving. Many of their words remind us how deep our thankfulness runs.

Each note reflects a truth we already know – agriculture lies at the heart of North Carolina. Hours before the sun rises and long after it sets, farmers across North Carolina work through every season to grow, raise, catch and make the products that keep North Carolina fed. When you’re out shopping this season, choose local products, shop gifts made in North Carolina or offer a “thank you” to the farmers you pass in your day- to-day life.
As we begin the holiday season, we celebrate our farmers’ dedication and sacrifices. To every farmer, producer and maker across North Carolina: thank you for your unwavering dedication, your love for the land and your devotion to keeping our tables and grocery stores full because as one of many notes reminded us, “things don’t magically appear at Piggly Wiggly.”
