Farm Family of the Day: Crooked Creek Farm

Every year the N.C. State Fair thrills people of all ages and backgrounds from across the state for 11 exciting days. Fairgoers get the chance to enjoy exciting rides and delicious new foods. The State Fair is also a time to celebrate N.C. agriculture and the hardworking families who make it our state’s leading industry.

Farm Family of the Day, sponsored by Tractor Supply Co., is a program that recognizes one standout farm family each day of the N.C. State Fair. To honor these families’ accomplishments and contributions to North Carolina agriculture, they are awarded tickets to attend the fair on a day of their choosing, where they will be recognized through PA announcements and signs on the fairgrounds.

Today, the N.C. State Fair and Tractor Supply Co. congratulate Crooked Creek Farm of Stokes County!

Located in Sandy Ridge, this family farm is known for being incredibly dedicated to their work.

“Working on a farm is hard time-consuming work. It’s also the most rewarding work I’ve ever done,” shared Cassidy Boles. At Crooked Creek the family is responsible for 80 acres of flue-cured tobacco as well as 160 cows. The family is dedicated to the work that they do and believe it’s important to their way of life.

The Boles family is a first-generation farm. The couple started their farm when they were 17 years old, pooling their savings to buy five heifer cows from their high school history teacher. Since then, the farm has grown and they’ve formed a successful business around their farm which they hope to see their children carry on into the future.

Through growing their own food and raising their own beef, the Boles family has had the chance to foster attitudes of hard work, tradition, and responsibility both in themselves as well as in their children.

One common misconception is that farming is nothing but harvesting and planting. Farmers have to be businessmen, manage logistics and finances all at once.

“Farmers are the true “jacks of all trades” Boles shared, “Working on a farm teaches you to be good at everything!”

This year marks the Boles family’s first time attending the N.C.State Fair! They’re excited to get the chance to watch the many farm and agriculture demonstrations across the fairgrounds as well as try out some tasty fair food.

Congratulations to Crooked Creek Farm! Look out for our next featured farm family tomorrow!
