Mushrooms are a great addition to any meal, not only for their flavor profiles, but also the nutritional value they hold. One of our Got to Be NC Members, Gill and Spore Mushroom Farm in Louisburg, grows a variety of mushrooms and creates recipes for their customers to try with them in the kitchen.

Gill and Spore Mushroom Farm, established in 2022, grows specialty mushrooms in an indoor, controlled environment. From Shiitake and Oyster to Lion’s Mane and King Trumpet, their mushrooms provide a variety of flavors to professional and home chefs alike. Their products can be purchased at the Durham Co-op Market, the Weaver Street Markets in Hillsborough and Carrboro, Steve’s Garden Market and Butcher, the State Farmers Market, the South Durham Farmers’ Market, and the Cary Farmers Market.

Lions Mane mushrooms, one of the varieties grown by Gill and Spore Mushroom Farm, are very eye catching for consumers due to their large appearance and texture. They have a mild, slightly sweet, flavor that adds a unique twist to many dishes, including crab cakes! In fact, Lion’s Mane mushroom shreds just like crab meat, making it perfect for this recipe. Try it for yourself today and enjoy N.C. mushrooms all year long!
