Farm Family of the Day, sponsored by Tractor Supply Co., is a program that recognizes one standout farm family each day of the N.C. State Fair. To honor these families’ accomplishments and contributions to North Carolina agriculture, they are awarded tickets to attend the fair on a day of their choosing, where they will be recognized through PA announcements and signs on the fairgrounds.
Today, the N.C. State Fair and Tractor Supply Co. congratulate Pittsboro’s Lutterloh Farms, a historic agricultural operation that has been a pillar of Chatham County’s farming community since 1820. Owned and managed by Charles and Sybil Lutterloh, the farm spans large pastures ideal for grazing and specializes in raising beef cattle and producing hay and corn to support the livestock.
“The farm’s story is one of tradition, adaptation and the importance of family, which continues to guide its growth and success,” said granddaughter Macy Griffin, who nominated Lutterloh Farms. “Generations of Lutterlohs have proved their ability to adapt to changing agricultural demands, having once been a dairy farm.”
Many Lutterlohs are involved in the farm’s operations. Along with Charles and Sybil, their children Lynn, Dana and Charlie, as well as their seven grandchildren, are heavily involved in the farm’s operations. Their children’s spouses — Andy, Brian and Laura — also help maintain the legacy.

The Lutterlohs have participated in livestock shows at the N.C. State Fair for years, previously showing dairy cattle. Macy proudly represents the family’s farming legacy by showing beef cattle at competitions across the state.
She currently attends N.C. State with plans to continue supporting North Carolina agriculture after she graduates. Her passion for agriculture was sparked by her involvement on the farm and in her high school’s FFA chapter.
“I believe my dedication to agriculture not only honors my family’s traditions but also brings fresh enthusiasm to Lutterloh Farms,” said Macy.
Aside from showing, the Lutterlohs enjoy trying new foods and riding the State Fair Flyer.
Mason and Dylan, two of Macy’s cousins, are also critical to the farm’s daily operations. They work closely with Charles and their father, Charlie, running machinery and handling essential maintenance tasks. Their hands-on involvement ensures the farm runs smoothly and remains a vital part of the local agricultural community.
In addition to its beef cattle operation, Lutterloh Farms once raised chicks for larger poultry companies, contributing to the region’s poultry industry. The farm also operates a successful hauling business, providing a valuable service to Chatham County and surrounding areas. This diversification has allowed the Lutterlohs to support the community in new ways, further strengthening the farm’s role in the local economy.
During their summer corn-growing season, Lutterloh Farms distributes the majority of the corn grown to residents of Pittsboro and CORA, the local food pantry.
For the Lutterlohs, farming is not just an occupation — it’s a family tradition that has been passed down for generations. As the farm continues to grow and evolve, the Lutterloh family remains committed to preserving their agricultural heritage while embracing the future, ensuring Lutterloh Farms remains a cornerstone of Chatham County’s agricultural landscape.
Congratulations to Lutterloh Farms! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s Farm Family of the Day feature.
