Father’s Day with N.C. Agriculture

Father’s Day this year takes place on Sunday, June 16th, and many farms across our state are hosting events to help you honor dad in a way he will never forget! From farm tours and alpaca yoga to beer, bourbon and donuts, our farms are working hard to incorporate activities that dad will enjoy into events taking place all weekend long. Check out our list below and be sure to also look for other events in your area!

Fathers Day Boil & Brew at Old Mill Farm in Durham

Old Mill Farm in Durham is well-known for being a place of serenity and fun in the community. From livestock animals, including goats and alpacas, to family activities, like fishing and gem mining, the farm allows parents and children alike to enjoy family time together. On June 16th, the farm is hosting a Father’s Day Boil & Brew where you can enjoy jazz music, cold beers and an authentic country boil on the farm! Chef and Co-Owner of Pork in the Road, Christian Thompson, will be responsible for cooking the boil, which means you are sure to enjoy a high-quality meal! Tickets can be purchased online and prices range depending on quantity of food needed. There are three ticket options to choose from: Baby Boil, Boil Lite and Large Boil. There will also be an additional food truck on-site if you would prefer to purchase a general admission ticket ($12) and eat at the food truck. Bourbon Blending Class at Mystic Farm and Distillery in Durham 

Is your dad a bourbon lover? Treat him this Father’s Day to a special bourbon blending class at Mystic Farm and Distillery! On June 16th from 2-4 p.m., dad can enjoy a professionally led course on the art and science of blending bourbon. Mystic Distillery has a variety of liquor products on the market today, including their award-winning Broken Oak Whiskey. The genius behind their incredible products will be revealed in this unique opportunity! Throughout the course, participants will sample bourbons from three barrels at Mystic Distillery. Instructors will come around to each individual and work with them to identify flavor profiles and create blends that match their desired taste. At the end of the class, each participant will get to take home a 375 mL bottle of their custom made blend! In addition, all participants will receive a tour of the distillery and learn how all of the liquor products are made at Mystic Distillery. Donuts with Dad at The Sellitto Farm in Surf City 

Start the weekend off in a sweet way at The Sellitto Farm in Surf City! On Saturday, June 15th, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., enjoy donuts, coffee, hay rides, adorable livestock animals and more on the farm. The Sellitto Farm is home to many animals that you can pet and hold, including bunnies, mini horses, goats, and pigs. In addition to seeing all these animals on your hay ride through the farm, you can enjoy quality time with them throughout the event and receive all the cuddles! Coffee will be provided by Fill My Cup Coffee, located at Topsail Island, and donuts will be provided by Day Break Donuts, located in Surf City. One child from each family can also receive a free fairy hair session and a free shaved ice. Tickets for this event are $35 for dad, spouse and one child. Additional children are $10 each and additional dad/grandpas are $15 each. Father’s Day Market at the Nash County Farmers Market 

Do you find your dad hard to shop for? Take him to the Nash County Farmers Market this Father’s Day weekend and let him pick out some unique local products to enjoy! From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 15th, shop the market with dad and stock up on fresh and local produce, meat products, crafts and more. In fact, on that day, the market will be stocked full of items that dad is sure to love! The Nash County Farmers Market is home to a variety of North Carolina vendors, including 919 Create and Design, Bearadise Farm, Caveman Charcoal, Koi Pond Brewing and Washington Crab and Seafood. Make it a date and enjoy shopping around the market with dad on Father’s Day weekend! No tickets are required for this event.


Father’s Day Celebration at Winchester Creek Farm in Waynesville

There are three words that will get anyone excited: Free Ice Cream! On Saturday, June 15th, and Sunday, June 16th, all guests at Winchester Creek Farm will receive free ice cream treats! Celebrate Father’s Day with your dad by touring the farm, taking an alpaca yoga class, enjoying ice cream on the farm or all of the above. Winchester Creek is a family-owned farm raising alpacas and other mini farm animals. In addition to their friendly and adorable animals on-site, they also have a farm store where you can find merchandise to remember the day together or products made from alpaca fiber, including socks, and products made from goats milk, like soaps. Father’s Day Luau at Foothills Brewing in Winston Salem

Transport your dad to a tropical vacation this Father’s Day by attending the Father’s Day Luau at Foothills Brewing! On Sunday, June 16, from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., enjoy local beers and live music from the Robertson Boys. Throughout the event, dads can enjoy lots of Hawaiian fun, including a Hawaiian shirt contest (the winner will receive a Foothills Hawaiian shirt), obstacle relay race, cornhole, disc golf and more! Foothills Brewing is well-known in the community for making a variety of local beverage products, including the Hazy Jade IPA, Hoppyum IPA, Carolina Blonde Ale, Torch Pilsner and People’s Porter. They also have sparkling waters available and a variety of coffee products. No tickets are required for this event.
