L&S Family Farms grows quality beef right here in North Carolina

by | Oct 16, 2023

The Farm Family of the Day is sponsored by Tractor Supply Company and seeks to recognize and celebrate the state’s rich agricultural heritage and many farm families that are behind the state’s agriculture and agribusiness industry. One family is recognized each day of the Fair, either nominated themselves or by members of their community. Congratulations to the 2023 Farm Families!

Introducing our Farm Family of the Day for Oct. 16, L&S Family Farms! Owners Lee Sweem and Tammy Lambert are dedicated to creating quality beef right here in North Carolina. This farm family has pasture-raised, grain-finished, no antibiotics, no growth hormones and dry-aged cows. In 2018, Lee Sweem and Tammy Lambert joined to build a quality cow and calf herd and haven’t looked back since. Now, the herd includes calf backgrounding for truckload sale lots as well as finishing farm-raised valves to be processed and sold at local farmers markets. Located in Nashville, L&S Family Farms is a first-generation operation. The foundation of the herd consisted of six cows owned by Lee and his wife Amy and has grown over the years. L&S is a true family operation, Amy being a farm manager who interacts with customers and plays a role in making farm decisions.

Even though L&S Family Farms is a young operation, their dedication to agriculture is just as high as any other farm families. “Our family loves farming because we are a part of something much bigger,” said Amy. “We are feeding you and your family but were also much wider spread when we sell truckloads of calves headed to the western feed yards. We also love teaching our children the true meaning of responsibility and hard work.” Both Sweem and Lambert work full time jobs. This means that the majority of their weekends are dedicated to running their operation. In their free time, the family works together to get their tasks completed to raise the best quality product possible. “We work hand-in-hand, day-to-day to get our chores completed as well as the big projects such as bailing hay, picking corn silage or working with the herd. You can almost always find us with a kid in the buddy seat during the summer and after school,” Amy said.

L&S Family Farms is committed to the process of growing quality beef for their community. “Our family has impacted our local community by being able to provide a healthy, trustworthy meat grower. You can follow our social media pages to learn what goes into growing beef for your family,” Amy said. With two farm kids running around, the family loves to see the beginnings of a possible second generation of L&S Farms. Seeing their children make memories at the fairgrounds is what makes it special for the family. “We’ve always loved the Fair not because of the rides or entertainment, but because of the agriculture. Even though we have cows of our own of all sorts of breeds, we love to walk through the cows and future second-generation farmer, Eli, loves to look at the produce, specifically the biggest pumpkin growers.” If you’re around the livestock or produce areas of the fairgrounds, you might see the members of L&S Family Farms on the fairgrounds today. Make sure to say hello! We are honored to have them as the Farm Family of the Day for October 16th. Thank you for your commitment to our state’s number one industry!
