2020 Graduate Spotlight: Nallah Muhammad

by | Jun 4, 2020

During this unpredictable time, students like Nallah Muhammad have been reflecting on their educations, while looking forward to their futures.

An Asheville native, Nallah Muhammad developed her passion for agriculture during her senior year of high school. Nallah and her family are vegetarians, and because of this, she understood the importance of access to fresh food from an early age. While she was not sure how she would incorporate this passion into her future career, she knew she needed to share it with others, and that is where North Carolina A&T assisted her.

Nallah recently graduated from North Carolina A&T State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Environmental Systems with a concentration in Environmental Studies. She is currently an intern with Carolina Creative Works in partnership with Piedmont Triad Regional Food Council, as well as with the Out of the Garden Project, where she is an Urban Teaching Farm Intern.

Nallah will be returning to A&T next spring for graduate school. She hopes to then become a teacher.

“As a whole, I want to teach. Whatever my career may end up being, I want to teach children in some capacity.”

During her undergrad studies, Nallah created an impressive resumé for herself. She was president of the Earth and Environmental Science Club, as well as the president of the Student Advisory Council for the College of Agriculture. Nallah also created her own agriculture/environmental science education program, AfroAgriculture. The group partnered with several nonprofits and summer camps last summer to spread awareness of their program.

During the development of AfroAgriculture, Nallah’s parents supported and inspired her immensely.

“There were so many moments in which I had to channel my father’s drive and my mother’s determination and fearlessness to get me through some really hard times.”

Additionally, Nallah is grateful for the time she has spent at A&T.

“A&T forced me to look deep within and define myself for myself. It gave me the confidence to know that I am enough in a room of the best of the best.”

Congratulations, Nallah! We cannot wait to see what great things you achieve in the future!
