by | Jan 18, 2019

Welcome the first baby of 2019, a calf that was born in Waynesville, North Carolina. This new baby is a result of a breeding synchronization study as well as an offspring of Select Sires’ Young Sire Program.

The herd of registered black angus is a part of the N.C. Beef System which are herds of genetically similar black angus beef cattle located at various research stations across the state and are all managed as one large herd. The beef research program consists of artificial breeding and synchronization trials, weaning trials, feed trials and a North Carolina Beef Cattle Improvement Program bull test.

North Carolina is home to 370,000 beef cattle, with the most being in Randolph County. The newest calf of 2019 was born at the Mountain Research Station of the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
