It’s almost Super Bowl time which means all of the best appetizers and dishes of the year. What better meal to prepare for a night spent watching the football game of the year? These tasty chili sliders will be filling and perfect for the evening.

Beaufort, Chatham and Wilkes counties lead in beef cows in the state. North Carolina ranks 27th nationally in beef cows and it accounts for almost 2 percent of the nation’s supply.

INGREDIENTS
1 1⁄4 lb. 80, 20 ground beef chuck (Chili Ingredients)
1⁄3 cup sweet red bell pepper, diced (Chili Ingredients)
1⁄3 cup white onion, diced (Chili Ingredients)
1 1⁄2 Tablespoon chili powder (Chili Ingredients)
1 1⁄2 Tablespoon Italian seasoning (Chili Ingredients)
1 1⁄2 Tablespoon sugar (Chili Ingredients)
1 Tablespoon dried minced garlic (Chili Ingredients)
1 Tablespoon garlic powder (Chili Ingredients)
2 1⁄2 Tablespoon olive oil (Chili Ingredients)
1 1⁄4 cup ketchup (Chili Ingredients)
1 lb. 96, 4 ground beef (Burger Ingredients)
1 cup white onion, minced (Burger Ingredients)
8 pack slider rolls (Bun Ingredients)
1 Tablespoon poppy seeds (Bun Ingredients)
1⁄3 cup butter, melted (Bun Ingredients)
1 Tablespoon yellow mustard (Bun Ingredients)
1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (Bun Ingredients)
1⁄2 Tablespoon dried garlic (Bun Ingredients)
1⁄2 Tablespoon sourwood honey (Bun Ingredients)
2 4⁄5 oz. French’s Crispy Fried Onions (Toppings for the Burger)
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, grated (Toppings for the Burger)
10 oz. package aged sharp cheddar slices (pre-cut for crackers) (Toppings for the Burger)
French’s Yellow Mustard (Toppings for the Burger)
Duke’s Light mayonnaise (Toppings for the Burger)

INSTRUCTIONS
Chili Ingredients–Brown ground beef chuck in a large skillet. Then add red bell pepper, onion, sugar, spices and olive oil. Cook until peppers are tender and onions are translucent. Add ketchup and cook for 3 minutes longer. Remove from heat, cover with lid and set aside.

Burger Ingredients–Combine ingredients and shape into slider size patties. Chill for 1 hour before frying in a pan.

*Local Dish suggestion: add a little salt and pepper to the burger ingredients.

Bun Ingredients–Mix ingredients together and set aside.

Toppings for the Burger–Place rolls in a greased 9 x 13 pan. Place grated cheese on bottom of rolls and top with cooked slider patties. Add sliced cheese, chili, mayo, mustard and French fried onions. Place top buns back on top of burgers and brush top of buns with the bun ingredient mixture without over saturating. Place burgers in an oven that has been preheated to 350 degrees. Cook until browned on top and cheese is melted. Let cool, cut and have some Carolina Pepsi and Lays Chips.
