by | Aug 16, 2018

WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina.

This week our state took back bragging rights for world’s largest cantaloupe thanks to Danny Vester from Spring Hope. It has got us thinking about how delicious fresh, juicy sliced cantaloupe taste. Most of the time, cantaloupe is enjoyed just by itself or as part of a fruit salad.  If you want to know other ways to prepare and serve cantaloupe check 0ut a few on Local Dish. For a summer treat – try the cantaloupe punch featured below.

“Tastes like August.” Those are the words Brian uses in the video below to describe this recipe for cantaloupe punch. This drink is perfect for bridal showers, baby showers and even summer afternoon showers. The recipe includes 3 cups of cubed cantaloupe, 2 cups of lime sherbert, 1 cup of ginger ale, a pinch of salt and a splash of lime juice. Lisa suggests serving the beverage in chilled glasses. She also recommends trying the recipe with raspberry sherbert.

Cantaloupes and other melons are in season at area farmers markets and roadside stands. To find a location near you, go to www.ncfarmfresh.com.
