Today’s Topic: North Carolina’s pork industry feeds us and provides jobs in North Carolina.

by | Jun 5, 2018

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Mike Davis to discuss “Today’s Topic.”

North Carolina’s pork industry has been in the news lately, but not in a way that tells its overall contributions to our economy. The family farms that produce pork are part of the total $85 billion agriculture and agribusiness industry. Not only do these farms produce food, but the cash receipts for pork production are $2.1 billion, and the industry supports 46,000 full-time jobs. There are 2,100 hog farms in the state, and we are home to the largest pork processing facility in the world. If we take our farmers and food production for granted, we stand to literally lose the hand that feeds us.
