Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
The popularity of sweet potatoes is continuing to grow in Europe. Recent reports saw sweet potato sales up 3,000 percent in Norway, 479 percent in Finland and 839 percent in Sweden.
These numbers point to the important oportunities international markets provide for farmers and agribusiness. The 2007 Census of Ag showed there were 59,095 acres of sweet potatoes planted. This year farmers planted 83,000 acres, which is down from the 95,000 acres planted in 2016.
