Today’s Topic: Junior Livestock Sale of Champions raises record $182,500

by | Oct 17, 2017

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”

The annual Junior Livestock Sale of Champions at the N.C. State Fair raised a record $182,500. The money raised by the auction of champion animals from the junior livestock shows will support scholarships and educational programs.

The State Fair’s livestock shows highlight some of the best animals and brightest kids in North Carolina. The sponsors of this event recognize that youth exhibitors are the future of agriculture in North Carolina.

The livestock shows are an important part of the State Fair, Commissioner Troxler says, and it’s great to see so much interest in them. About 6,100 animals have been entered by 1,500 exhibitors for State Fair livestock shows this year, including 970 youth exhibitors.
