Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
The 2017 N.C. State Fair opens Oct. 12, and it’s a milestone year. This year marks the 150th N.C. State Fair.
To highlight this special occasion, on Thursday’s kickoff day, admission to the fair will be just $1.50, and participating food vendors will offer $1.50 portions.
In addition, the first 15,000 folks through the gates will get a free commemorative button as part of “WRAL Button Bonanza.” And each hour, State Fair staff will hand out free ride passes and other prizes to fair-goers wearing the buttons.
One of the new things at this year’s fair is probably very good news for folks who like rides — wristbands for unlimited rides will be available for purchase every day of the fair.
As usual, the fair will highlight agriculture, including North Carolina’s growing craft beer and wine industries. At the Our State Public House in Heritage Circle, visitors will be able to purchase sampling flights of beer or wine in a building made from antique logs. Admission to the Public House is by ticket, and no one under 21 will be admitted.
Over near the Scott Building, the Got to Be NC Agriculture tent will showcase N.C. food and beverage companies.
We’re trying to make it easier for people to get to the fair. There is a new park-and-ride option from a parking lot at the corner of Reedy Creek and Edwards Mill roads. Fair-goers will be able to take a free shuttle from the lot to the fairgrounds.
The fair runs Oct. 12-22. For more information, visit www.ncstatefair.org.
