Today’s Topic: Field days are learning opportunities for farmers

by | May 2, 2017

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”

Spring is a very busy time on the farm, but it also offers educational opportunities for farmers.

Several field days are coming up in the next couple of months, offering farmers a chance to talk with researchers one-on-one and learn more about the latest research findings and production methods. Studies generally look at ways to help farmers do their jobs better, be more efficient and improve the bottom line. Farmers can also see the research in the field firsthand, and compare test plots or techniques.

Field days cover a wide range of topics: small grains, safety, turfgrass, small farms, dairy production, organic grains, apples, tomatoes and peanuts, just to name a few.

The events are an extension of the research partnership that exists between the NCDA&CS, N.C. State University and N.C. A&T State University. Many of the events also are supported by the state’s commodity associations.
