Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
The Flavors of Carolina food shows have been helping North Carolina food companies connect with retailers, restaurants and food services since 1982. The goal of the shows is to encourage food buyers to purchase locally grown and processed foods.
Offering a mix of farm-fresh food and value-added products, the events present a unique opportunity for start-up and specialty food vendors to talk directly with potential buyers representing grocery chains, restaurants, gourmet food stores and wholesalers. International buyers also were on hand at the Raleigh show March 2.
Over the past 34 years, Flavors of Carolina has helped to generate millions of dollars in sales for N.C. companies, provide top quality foods to N.C. residents and tourists, and in turn, create demand for more local foods from N.C. farmers.
The Raleigh show is one of two in March. Another is scheduled for March 22 in Charlotte. The department also has hosted Flavors of Carolina shows for buyers with the military to encourage more purchases of N.C. foods for commissaries and dining halls.
