The Charlotte Regional Farmers Market invites children, their families and their teddy bears to the market for a picnic lunch Friday, July 10, in celebration of National Teddy Bear Picnic Day. Guests are encouraged to bring a teddy bear with them for the picnic and an extra teddy bear for donation.
“This is a new event for the market, but we’re expecting a great turnout,” market manager Amie Newsome says. “It’s a chance to spend time outside with your children, support a great local organization, and also take care of your shopping before the weekend even starts.”
Visitors can enjoy a picnic lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Local farmers, food trucks and baked-goods vendors will have a variety of local food available for purchase. The N.C. Watermelon Queen also will be on hand to pass out free watermelon slices, stickers and coloring sheets provided by the N.C. Watermelon Association.
Plan on bringing a blanket because seating is limited. Also, consider bringing a new or gently used teddy bear to donate to Turnaround Toys. The local nonprofit organization collects, repairs and distributes toys to children in impoverished areas in the Charlotte area.
The Charlotte Regional Farmers Market is located at 1801 Yorkmont Road. It is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.
Other upcoming events at the market include Peach Day on July 24 and a visit from the Got to Be NC Big Cart on July 31.
