This Father’s Day weekend the four state-operated farmers market have you covered for all your cookout needs. Fresh local meat, cheeses, breads and, of course, a summertime abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables. Fresh peaches are at all four markets so be sure to pick some up to include in a fresh peach cobbler or homemade peach ice cream
Here’s a breakdown of what’s available at the market this week.
WNC Farmers Market, Asheville – Warm summer days call for watermelons and the market has them. Customers will find seeded, seedless and sugar baby varieties. Peaches, local squash, and even a few cucumbers are also available. Vine-ripened tomatoes are showing up in 25-pound boxes and bushel baskets. There is also still a good supply of hanging baskets and a limited supply of bedding plants.
Charlotte Regional Farmers Market, Charlotte – Customers will find blueberries, peaches, blackberries, asparagus, carrots, cabbage, cucumbers, garlic, peppers, onions, leafy greens, mint, potatoes, sweet potatoes, zucchini and squash. The market also offers fresh and local meats, eggs, cheese and seafood. Mark your calendars for Friday, June 26. The market will hold a Bog Garden Workshop at 4 p.m. Attendees can learn about Venus fly traps and other carnivorous plants.
Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market, Colfax – Farmers at this market have your grocery list covered this week. Be sure to pick up fresh beets, blackberries, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, collards, corn, cucumbers, kale, herbs, lettuce, peas, potatoes, radishes, spinach, sweet potatoes and tomatoes. Fresh, local meat, cheeses and eggs are also available. This Saturday the market will host the 7th annual WingFest to benefit The Arc of High Point. Bring Dad out to taste wings from several local businesses and restaurants. This year’s event also includes a N.C. Micro Brew Garden with beers from Foothills Brewery, Carolina Brewery and Granite Falls Brewing Company. WingFest also includes live music and a kids area. Admission is free.
State Farmers Market, Raleigh – Stop by for a great supply of peaches, blueberries, blackberries, sweet corn, tomatoes, okra, squash, cucumbers, green beans, in addition to many other fresh fruits and vegetables.
