Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
Each year, about 100 students from across North Carolina include the Resource Conservation Workshop in their summer plans. This year’s workshop takes place June 21-26 at N.C. State University.
It’s sponsored by the N.C. Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts in conjunction with the NCDA&CS Division of Soil and Water Conservation, N.C. State’s Soil Science Department, and the Soil and Water Conservation Society’s Hugh Hammond Bennett Chapter.
The primary objective of the week-long workshop is to teach students about natural resources and their management in today’s global environment. The workshop involves study and hands-on participation in a wide range of conservation topics. During the week, students live in dormitories at N.C. State.
The workshop is open to students who have demonstrated an interest in natural resource conservation and have been nominated by their local soil and water conservation districts. In addition to learning about conservation, participants are also eligible for awards and scholarships.
Registration is closed for this year, but students interested in next year’s workshop can check with their local Soil and Water Conservation District for application information. A list of districts is available here.
