Today’s Topic: NC Ag Awareness Day bringing big crowd to Raleigh

by | Mar 17, 2015

Todays-TopicAgriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”

National Agriculture Day is tomorrow (March 18), and in North Carolina it’s also Ag Awareness Day.

Organizers are expecting about 1,500 people from agriculture and agribusiness to attend the event in Raleigh. The purpose is to celebrate the importance of agriculture to North Carolina and thank legislators for supporting the industry.

Ag Awareness Day logoAg groups from across the state will gather at the State Fairgrounds beginning at 9 a.m., then take shuttle buses downtown. Attendees will meet with legislators and talk about agriculture. And at 11 a.m. there will be a rally on the Capitol Grounds. Commissioner Troxler, Gov. Pat McCrory, Senate leader Phil Berger and House Speaker Tim Moore are scheduled to speak at the rally.

If you think about everything agriculture provides us – food, fiber, economic benefits, especially for rural communities – there are a lot of reasons to celebrate agriculture. Commissioner Troxler wants to see the economic impact of agriculture in the state grow from its current level of $78 billion to $100 billion in the not-too-distant future.

There couldn’t be an event like this without partners. North Carolina Farm Bureau, the N.C. Grange, the N.C. Agribusiness Council, N.C. State University and many others have helped make Ag Awareness Day possible.
