Farmers markets are already bustling with lots of fresh, local produce, and more will be coming as the summer continues to heat up. Our four state-owned farmers markets in Asheville, Charlotte, Colfax and Raleigh are buzzing with activities. Mark your calendars for these June events:
Fiber Feel Day, Western North Carolina Farmers Market, Asheville
Local Cloth will host this event on Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for farmers who raise sheep, goats, alpacas, llamas and rabbits for their fiber. Visitors will have the chance to talk with local farmers, meet their animals and purchase fleeces.
Crawfish Day, State Farmers Market, Raleigh
This popular annual event takes place Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m. Crawfish will be sold for $6 per pound live or $7 per pound cooked with Cajun seasoning. There is a 5-pound minimum purchase for live crawfish and a 1-pound minimum for cooked crawfish. There also is a 25-pound limit per person, and no pre-orders will be accepted.
Wing Festival, Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market, Colfax
This fundraiser for Arc of High Point takes place Saturday, June 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Seven local restaurants will vie for the title of Best Wings in the Triad.
Blueberry Day, State Farmers Market, Raleigh
Free blueberry samples, blueberry cobbler and recipes will be available Thursday, June 19, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Free blueberry samples and recipes on Friday, June 20, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Crawfish Boil, Robert G. Shaw Piedmont Triad Farmers Market, Colfax

Peach Day, Charlotte Regional Farmers Market
Peach Day features free peach samples and recipes on Friday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be plenty of peaches for purchase as well.
Master Gardener Plant Clinics,
The N.C. State University Master Gardeners Program will offer free plant clinics at these markets to help residents in diagnosing and solving gardening questions. Volunteers are prepared to help with advice on growing plants, insect identification and managing disease problems.
