WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina. This week’s recipe concludes a month of recipes featuring N.C.-grown sweet potatoes. North Carolina farmers harvested 53,000 acres of sweet potatoes in 2013 and leading sweet potato-producing counties include Wilson, Sampson, Johnston, Wayne and Duplin.
DeMarco Bizzell of Wendell won first place at the N.C. State Fair in the N.C. Cattlemen’s Beef Council It’s All About Hamburger competition with his recipe for East Wake Warrior Burgers. Each burger is topped with a half-inch slice of sweet potato sprinkled with cinnamon. Lisa notes that Bizzell “won the blue ribbon hands down for this creative and delicious combination of North Carolina ingredients.”
