It’s almost time for two annual events at the State Fairgrounds: the Southern Farm Show and the Ag Development Forum.

The Southern Farm Show is a winter tradition at the fairgrounds, and this year it takes place Feb. 5-7. It’s the largest ag exposition in the Carolinas and Virginia.Ag Forum logo

In addition to the hundreds of companies exhibiting products, the show also is the anchor for annual meetings of several ag groups. One of these meetings is the department’s annual Ag Forum, which will take place on Thursday, Feb. 6.

The forum is an opportunity for farmers, agribusinesses and others who have an interest in North Carolina agriculture to get an economic, policy and technology outlook, and also hear Commissioner Troxler’s State of Agriculture address.

This year, the forum also will include a panel discussion featuring the secretaries of the state Department of Transportation and Department of Environment and Natural Resources, a representative of the state Commerce Department, as well as the Governor’s senior economic adviser. They will be talking about interagency cooperation for agribusiness development in North Carolina.

In the past year, the state has seen several examples of agribusiness development that other state agencies have supported – everything from planned improvements at our state ports, to new processing plants and other ventures that will help boost N.C.’s rural economies, Commissioner Troxler says. It’s a timely topic for the forum.

Admission to the farm show and the forum are free. Registration for the forum is requested by Jan. 31. To register, log on here. Anyone with questions may contact Chrissy Waggett at 919-707-3008.

The forum is sponsored by John Deere.
