The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services is hosting eight price-risk management workshops across the state to help farmers better understand the futures market and other trading options to sell their commodities.

The workshops, which are free, are being offered between Jan. 8 and March 14. They will cover a variety of topics, including introduction to grain hedging, basis trading, cotton futures, options trading on futures, and using options to manage financial risks. They’ll also look at trading strategies to manage exposure to fluctuations in energy costs.

The first workshop takes place Jan. 8 at the Robeson County Agriculture Building in Lumberton. Others are scheduled throughout the winter in Goldsboro, Sanford, Jackson, Halifax, Greenville, Locust and Statesville.
