- “Childress Vineyards wins award at NC State Fair,” Lexington Dispatch: Childress Vineyards won an award in the N.C. State Fair’s 2013 Wine Competition. Childress won in the fortified/dessert category for commercial wineries for its late harvest Viognier 2010. Fifty commercial wineries submitted a total of 387 entries, and the amateur competition featured 99 entries from 42 winemakers across the state. …
- “Germanton goat dairy wins medals in international cheese competition,” The Stokes News: Buffalo Creek Farm and Creamery of Germanton was announced as the winner of a silver and three bronze medals at the 2013 N.C. State Fair’s International Cheese Competition, held in Raleigh. Buffalo Creek Farm entered four types of cheese into the competition and all four won medals at this year’s competition, which was the first competition entered by the Germanton goat dairy. …

State Fair in full swing on opening night,” Fayetteville Observer: For Durham native Jessica Jacobs, attending the North Carolina State Fair is a family tradition that goes back at least 20 years. If they can help it, Jacobs said, she and her family never miss a state fair. Thursday night marked the opening of the 2013 fair in Raleigh, and it was the first time that Jacobs and her family have attended the fair on its first night. They usually prefer going on the final weekend. “We like to come out after things have gotten started,” said Jacobs. “But we may have to change that.” …

After spending four 12-hour days in a 1920s costume transforming clay into rich-glazed, ceramic tiles at the 2008 N.C. State Fair’s Village of Yesteryear, she was tired and grumpy. “This show is not for wimps,” said Bosetti, 54, a full-time artist who owns Bosetti Art Tile in downtown Raleigh. But then she started showing children what she does, explaining her process and getting lost in her work. …
