Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
National Farm-City Week started Nov. 16 and continues through Thanksgiving Day. The annual event helps promote a greater understanding of agriculture and its connection to the foods we all enjoy – not just on Thanksgiving, but every day of the year.
Various communities across the state hold events during Farm-City Week. These events seek to celebrate and strengthen the relationships between rural and urban residents of our state.
As North Carolina’s population grows, more and more of its residents live in or near cities, and our connection to the farm is not as direct as it used to be. But agriculture remains North Carolina’s economic engine. It has an impact on the small towns and the big cities. It’s a $72 billion industry that employs nearly 640,000 people statewide.
It’s important to understand the connection between agriculture, the food we eat and the economic benefits the industry provides to North Carolina.
