Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
The 2012 State Fair has come to a close. Total attendance was 965,297, the third-highest total ever. Commissioner Troxler says he likes to see people at the fair having a great time, regardless of total attendance.
Despite threatening weather on Oct. 18, the State Fair played host to another successful Food Lion Hunger Relief Day to collect canned food for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
On the entertainment front, the fair featured two homegrown music stars – Scotty McCreery and Jason Michael Carroll – in the Dorton Arena concert series.
But as it has since 1853, the State Fair remained focused on agriculture. Entries were up in the livestock, horticulture, and flower and garden shows. And the Field of Dreams and Cultivate a Career exhibits stressed the crops that grow in North Carolina and the many career opportunities related to agriculture.
