In the Kitchen with Brian and Lisa: Crockpot Applesauce

by | Oct 4, 2012

WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina.

If you like the taste of homemade applesauce, try this recipe from Brian and Lisa. Not only does it taste great, but by making the applesauce yourself you can control the amount of sugar in the mix. To make, start by coring, slicing and peeling 10 apples. For this recipe, Lisa uses a combination of Pink Lady and Golden Delicious apples.

Once you’ve sliced the apples, place them in a slow cooker with some water and add sugar and cinnamon to taste. Cook the apples on low for five hours and serve.

No matter where you are in the state, you should be able to find N.C. apples at your local grocery store, farmers market or roadside stand. To find locations near you, go to www.ncfarmfresh.com.
