Southern Farm Network logoThe 2012 Mountain State Fair opens Friday and continues through Sept. 16 at the Western North Carolina Ag Center in Fletcher. The theme is “Thrills, Squeals and Ferris Wheels” and the fair will have plenty of fun activities, music, rides, crafts, food and agricultural shows.

The Mountain State Fair celebrates the traditions and heritage of mountain craftspeople and entertainers. It will feature a clogging competition, a daily Mountain Music Festival and a lot of handmade items.

There are a few new additions to the fair this year. The Haywood Community College Timber Sports Team will demonstrate lumberjack skills Friday, Sept. 7, through Sunday, Sept. 9. And the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association will hold a rodeo Monday, Sept. 10, through Thursday, Sept. 13.
