Today’s Topic: Workshop on preventing and managing food recalls scheduled for Sept. 19

Southern Farm Network logoThe N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the N.C. Food Safety and Defense Task Force are hosting a workshop on preventing and managing food recalls Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Eaddy Building, 4300 Reedy Creek Road in Raleigh. The workshop is intended for home-based food businesses, shared-use kitchens, food, meat processing plants and co-packers. It will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A recall can be particularly damaging to new and smaller food companies. Troxler says entrepreneurs can take several steps to prevent a recall from happening and prepare for a recall if it does occur.

The workshop will feature presentations from retailers, health officials, food inspectors and NCDA&CS staff. Topics will include the economics of a food recall; communicating a recall to your customers and the public; common and avoidable mistakes in the food safety chain; and preventing outbreaks of foodborne diseases.
