NCDA&CS employees were recognized for outstanding safety by Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry in Raleigh, June 1.
On Friday, department employees were recognized for outstanding workplace safety by the N.C. Department of Labor and the Safety and Health Council of North Carolina at a safety award banquet held in Raleigh. Thirty area banquets are held across the state each year. This year, the department earned 20 percent of all awards received for the Raleigh area.
“We strive to maintain safe workplace environments for all our employees,” Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler said. “We appreciate the efforts of our employees and look forward to having even more sites recognized next year.”
Since 1946, the Safety Award Program has recognized private and public firms throughout the state that achieve and maintain good safety records. The program now extends to more than 3,000 firms. About 2,000 awards are presented annually to organizations which have had no fatalities on site and have maintained an incidence rate at least 50 percent below the industry average.
In all, 36 sites within the department were recognized for outstanding safety. Of those, nine sites were honored for the third consecutive year: Beneficial Insects Lab, Border Belt Tobacco Research Station, Charlotte Farmers Market, Elkin Laboratory, Griffin Diagnostic Laboratory, Mountain Research Station, Piedmont Triad Farmers Market, Standards Laboratory and Western N.C. Farmers Market.
