by | May 17, 2012

WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina.

It’s strawberry season in North Carolina, and Brian and Lisa are celebrating with a month of strawberry recipes. This recipe for Rustic Strawberry Shortcake is a true old-fashioned treat. As Lisa explains in the video below, the finished product might not look as pretty as some store-bought shortcakes, but the taste is beyond comparison. Lisa recommends serving the dessert with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.

N.C. strawberries are still available at farmers markets, roadside stands and pick-your-own farms across the state. To find a location near you, check out our online directory for local food,www.ncfarmfresh.com. While you’re out, you may even find peaches. We’ve already received reports that N.C. blueberries and peaches are now available at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh.
