WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina.
North Carolina produces more sweet potatoes than any other state in the nation. It’s no surprise then that there are so many delicious family sweet potato recipes in the state. This family recipe for Sweet Potato Turnovers was shared by Christine “Ma” Adams.
To make the turnovers, Brian and Lisa start with a can of Grands flaky biscuits and sweet potato patties. You should be able to find the sweet potato patties near the meat department of your local grocery store. If not, you can make your own by cutting a fresh sweet potato into thick slices and boiling them until slightly tender. Cut the patties in half and wrap them in the biscuits. Then cover the turnovers with a sugar-water mixture and cinnamon, and bake in a baking dish of melted butter. Lisa recommends serving these treats warm.
Be sure to check back next week when we feature another sweet potato recipe from Brian and Lisa. How does your family prepare sweet potatoes? Share your recipe below.
