Southern Farm Network logoChristmas is almost here, and North Carolina farms provide a lot for the holidays, from food for feasts to greenery for decorations.

It’s a time of year to get together with family and friends and reflect on our many blessings. Commissioner Troxler says he also spends time reflecting on the past year in agriculture.

2011 hasn’t been the easiest year for farmers, particularly in Eastern North Carolina. Tornadoes, drought and Hurricane Irene all took a toll. These disasters affected crops, equipment and farm infrastructure. But in the aftermath of these disasters, we also saw many instances of neighbor helping neighbor and acting with great compassion.
