WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina.
Brian and Lisa continue a month of blue-ribbon recipes leading up to the 2011 N.C. State Fair with this one for an apple, sausage and cheddar torte. This winning recipe is from Lisa Raschke of Raleigh, who took home first-place in the 2010 N.C. Apple Growers Association’s apple recipe contest. The savory breakfast entree features a layer of sausage, a mixture of cooked apples and onions, as well as a ricotta and cheddar cheese topping. Lisa says you can use any flavorful N.C. apple for this recipe, including Granny Smith, Honeycrisp and Pink Lady varieties.
