In the Kitchen with Brian and Lisa: Muscadine ice cream

by | Sep 8, 2011

WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina.

Grape lovers have a small window of time to enjoy muscadine grapes in North Carolina because the tasty fruit is only available from mid-August to late September. In this week’s segment, Lisa and Brian prepare a timely and delicious muscadine ice cream, perfect for the final weeks of the growing season as well as the final weeks of summer.

The State Farmers Market will host Grape Day Friday, Sept. 9. There will be free samples of N.C. wines, muscadine grapes and grape slushies. The annual event is a great chance to pick up some locally grown muscadines for this recipe or just to eat. More information about Grape Day is available on the State Farmers Market’s special-events page.
