Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
This week, Rhonda talks with Commissioner Troxler about additional responsibilities the NCDA&CS recently received.
The budget bill the General Assembly passed in June transferred two state agencies to NCDA&CS from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. They are the N.C. Forest Service and the Division of Soil and Water Conservation. The bill also transferred the Sleep Products and Grade A Milk programs from DENR’s Division of Environmental Health to NCDA&CS. The transfers became effective July 1.
“We’re taking on a much larger scope in terms of what we do,” Troxler tells Rhonda. Although there are wrinkles to work out as the NCDA&CS incorporates these agencies and programs into its structure, Troxler says each of these new additions will be a good fit with the department’s existing programs and services.
