Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”

Southern Farm Network logoThis week, Commissioner Troxler and Rhonda talk about the new state budget and its impact on the NCDA&CS. The fiscal year began July 1.

Commissioner Troxler tells Rhonda the department lost positions and some farmland preservation money, but should be able to continue to deliver its core services. He also says he’s thankful a provision that would have eliminated funding for four agricultural research stations was not included in the final budget the General Assembly approved last month. The stations that would have been affected are located in Butner, Kinston, Oxford and Whiteville.
