A crowd gathers to tape a farewell to Oprah at the State Farmers Market in Raleigh May 13.

We know North Carolina has some of the best local produce in the nation, and there is no better place to find it than at a local farmers market. It’s no surprise, then, that ABC affiliate WTVD chose the State Farmers Market as the site that best represents the Triangle for a taping held Friday. Footage from the taping will be added to clips from affiliates around the country and will air during a special for Oprah Winfrey Tuesday, May 24.

A crowd of retirees, mothers, college students and school children took part in the taping. However, this isn’t the first time the State Farmers Market has been featured on Oprah. In 2006, Oprah’s friend Gayle King visited the farmers market to tape a show about finding love.

In addition to love, the State Farmers Market also has a selection of N.C. strawberries, greens, sweet potatoes and greenhouse tomatoes. Some vendors are now offering blueberries and yellow squash, and there is still a large selection of trees, shrubs and bedding plants.
