WRAL reporter Brian Shrader and our own Lisa Prince feature seasonal recipes in their Got to Be Good Cookin’ segment using ingredients grown and available right here in North Carolina.
While N.C. strawberries have been readily available in some areas since the middle of April, they are now abundant across the state. This week, Brian and Lisa prepare a sweet strawberry tart using a recipe based on one that won the 2010 Strawberry Dessert Contest at the State Farmers Market. First, use 3-4 cups of fresh strawberries to create a strawberry puree. Then combine the puree with a cream-cheese filling in a graham-cracker crust. Lisa says the puree also is good as a stand-alone topping for toast or biscuits.
You can find ingredients for this and other recipes at farmers markets and roadside stands across the state. Pick-your-own strawberry farms are open now as well. Find locations near you at www.ncfarmfresh.com.
