Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
This week Commissioner Troxler and Rhonda discuss the annual Flavors of Carolina food shows held in Charlotte and Raleigh. The shows feature producers of local wines, produce, sauces and other specialty foods interested in marketing their products to retailers and foodservice companies.
Last week’s show in Raleigh saw a 40 percent increase in food businesses, and the Charlotte show in February had a record 106 companies take part. Troxler says the increased participation signals that food companies are looking to expand markets. Buyers at the shows represented food retailers and foodservice providers from across the U.S. and Canada.
The shows give small companies the opportunity to interact with large buyers that can purchase a lot of their product and put them on a path to success, Troxler says. The shows generate millions in sales for N.C. companies and create demand for more local food products.
