Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler will lead an agricultural trade mission to China next week. The trip will focus on selling more N.C. tobacco, soybeans, wheat, cotton and peanuts to the Asian nation.
China is now the world’s No. 2 economy, and it is fast becoming North Carolina’s largest market for agricultural exports.
The trade mission will include meetings with current and potential buyers of these commodities, as well as field visits to learn more about how the commodities are used and what the customers’ needs are.
This will be Troxler’s second trade mission to China. The first, in 2009, led directly to sales of N.C. tobacco, soybeans and cotton to Chinese buyers.
The trade mission is being supported by a grant from the N.C. Tobacco Trust Fund and some additional one-time funding for international marketing that was included in the current state budget. Representatives of commodity and agricultural organizations accompanying Troxler on the trip are paying their own expenses.
