Today’s Topic: Governor’s proposed budget not kind to agriculture

by | Feb 22, 2011

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”

Southern Farm Network logoGov. Bev Perdue’s proposed budget, released last week, would cut the NCDA&CS by nearly 30 percent.

The proposal would close seven agricultural research stations and transfer the Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund out of NCDA&CS, instead splitting it between one of her cabinet agencies and a non-profit. The proposal also calls for $5.2 million in additional cuts to the department.

The governor has delivered her proposal to the General Assembly, which will conduct its own budget process.
