Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
Gov. Bev Perdue’s proposed budget, released last week, would cut the NCDA&CS by nearly 30 percent.
The proposal would close seven agricultural research stations and transfer the Agricultural Development and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund out of NCDA&CS, instead splitting it between one of her cabinet agencies and a non-profit. The proposal also calls for $5.2 million in additional cuts to the department.
The governor has delivered her proposal to the General Assembly, which will conduct its own budget process.
