The Local Dish team of Lisa Prince and Brian Schrader put their cooking chops to the test competing against local celebrity-chef teams from NBC 17 and WTVD. Team NBC 17 was Elise Johnson from “My Carolina Today’s” “Cooking with Elise” and Sharon Delaney, “My Carolina Today” anchor. Team WTVD was made up of WTVD Community Affairs Specialist Angela Hampton and Tony Fusco, lead chef for Gravy.
They were all part of the recent Cooks for Books event to benefit the Garner Educational Foundation’s SCOR Reading Program and Storytelling Festival. The event was held at Garner TV and Appliance.
Lisa and Brian — who got an assist from Lisa’s sister Michele, who created the recipe with her husband — served up a Steak Pizza with roasted vegetables and a horseradish/mayo base. Look for the recipe on this week’s In the Field blog.
Dishes were judged by Jeff Hadley, dean, Wake Techinical Community College; Jeffrey Bane, dean, N.C. Chef’s Academy; and Lynda Loveland of WRAL Mix 101.5. A people’s choice award was also presented.
The Local Dish team didn’t earn the top prizes, but the event raised money for a good cause.
