Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
Last week, a strategic plan was released that focuses on helping North Carolina agriculture remain strong and productive amid greater competition for water resources.
North Carolina is a growing state, and as more people and businesses locate here, demand for water will increase. The strategic plan identifies water resources, future needs and ways to better manage water resources. The project also guides farmers to improve efficiency, conservation and supply of water.
Development of the plan was guided by the Agricultural Water Work Group, co-chaired by Commissioner Troxler and N.C. Farm Bureau President Larry Wooten. The 14 members of this group represent agriculture, conservation and North Carolina’s land-grant universities.
The plan was funded by a grant from Altria to the N.C. Foundation for Soil and Water Conservation. The plan is a living document that will be fine-tuned over time. You can download a copy at Ag H2O, a new website created by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
Listen as Commissioner Troxler and Rhonda talk about this strategic plan and what it means for North Carolina agriculture.
