Today’s Topic: Battling bedbugs

Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with the Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”

Southern Farm Network logoIn the past decade, bedbugs have made a comeback across the U.S. and in North Carolina.

Homeowners and business owners need to be aware that the effective treatment of a bedbug infestation can be costly, and they should be skeptical of promises of low-cost remedies.

Bedbugs generally cannot be controlled effectively with do-it-yourself measures. And many times they can’t be effectively controlled with just a single visit by a pest management company. It’s important for consumers to be careful in choosing a pest management company to address bedbug problems, Troxler says.

One of the most important things to do is make sure your pest management professional is licensed. In North Carolina, a current license issued by our department is required of anyone who performs structural pest control work. The company must be licensed even if it makes inspections for bedbugs or offers non-chemical treatment methods.

Listen to Commissioner Troxler and Rhonda Garrison discuss things consumers should keep in mind if they need to battle bedbugs.
