Gov. Bev Perdue signs "Fall Is For Planting" proclamation as members of the N.C. Nursery & Landscape Association look on.

Members of the North Carolina Nursery & Landscape Association (NCNLA) were outside the Capitol in Raleigh last week as Gov. Bev Perdue proclaimed “Fall Is For Planting.” The proclamation corresponds with an initiative by NCNLA to educate the public on the importance of planting in the fall.

Certain North Carolina plants, such as turfgrass, trees, shrubs and perennial flowering plants, do especially well when planted later in the year. To demonstrate the importance of fall planting, the association has redesigned the landscaping around the Capitol. Members donated plants, supplies and time to complete the project, which was designed by NCNLA president Tracy Sides.
