Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with the Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
This week, Rhonda and Commissioner Troxler talk about the torrential rains that affected much of eastern North Carolina last week. The heavy rains left many fields under water, posing a threat to several crops.
Commissioner Troxler flew over a good portion of the region Oct. 1 and saw crop flooding firsthand. He says sweet potatoes, cotton, peanuts and soybeans are the most vulnerable to the flooding because their harvests are just beginning. The floods could affect crop yields and quality.
