Agriculture Commissioner Steve Troxler sits down each week with the Southern Farm Network’s Rhonda Garrison to discuss “Today’s Topic.”
This week Rhonda and Commissioner Troxler turn their attention to the N.C. State Fair, specifically the Fair’s many competitions.
Each year, thousands of North Carolinians compete at the N.C. State Fair for a chance to win premium money, a prized ribbon and bragging rights. The fair offers nearly 29,000 ribbons and more than $500,000 in premium money.
These competitions showcase skills ranging from woodworking and scrapbooking to beekeeping and gardening, and just about everything in between.
The 2010 Premium Book has been released online, and it contains everything you need to know about the rules, deadlines, premiums and judging criteria. It’s available now at ncstatefair.org. Hardcopy books will be available in mid-August in the lobby of the State Fair office in Raleigh. You can also request a mailed copy by contacting the fair at (919) 733-2145.
